History of Panihati Dham

Panihati holds an extraordinarily special place in the history of Lord Chaitanya's movement. Over 500 years ago, Lord Nityananda Prabhu held the historic Chira-Dahi Danda Mahotsav here, where He lovingly punished Raghunath Das Goswami and blessed him to become one of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan.

The festival of flat rice and yogurt that Lord Nityananda organized was a revolutionary act of spiritual equality — inviting thousands from all walks of life to sit together and honor prasadam in the name of Lord Chaitanya.

Today, ISKCON Panihati carries forward this legacy under the guidance of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
